Jena Nelson Challenges Opponent Stephanie Bice to Debate
Democratic Candidate Proposes Four In-Person Debates

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (Aug. 5, 2026) — CD-5 Congressional Candidate Jena Nelson is challenging incumbent Stephanie Bice to four debates with each to focus on a critical issue facing the district: education, healthcare, economic affordability and AI data centers.

Nelson proposes town hall style debates with questions from constituents submitted to a moderator.

“The people of Oklahoma’s Fifth Congressional District deserve to hear where their potential Representatives stand on the day-to-day issues that impact them the most,” said Nelson. “Since launching my campaign last July, we have held dozens of open forum events and town halls while knocking on thousands of doors, talking to real people.”

“My opponent hasn’t had a single in-person town hall since August 25, 2021. Just this week, she’s charging folks $50 a person to attend an event where she’s speaking and they aren’t even allowed to ask questions,” said Nelson. “Five years is a long time to avoid your constituents and I believe they deserve someone who will show up for them without charging them an arm and a leg for access.”

“It’s also worth noting that my opponent has been traipsing around the district with Dr. Oz in tow promoting the so-called Rural Health Transformation Fund while the truth is she cares nothing about the health of her constituents. In fact, she voted to gut more than $1 trillion in healthcare spending in Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill,” said Nelson. “The Oklahoma Hospital Association estimates that her vote will cost Oklahoma $7 billion and CD-5 alone $3.2 billion! Plus, in the last year, more than 14,000 Oklahoma children have lost access to healthcare due to cuts supported by Bice.”

Constituents wishing to encourage Stephanie Bice to join the debates can reach her at (405) 300-6890 or email at [email protected]. To learn more about Jena Nelson, visit JenaNelson.com.
